9 December 2025 – I had a great conversation yesterday with Jason Landers and Shaun Clarke, both representing Bear Yuba Land Trust.

Again, it’s the creation of a job pipeline, the goal for Yuba College, that appealed to Jason and Shaun. In fact, they are currently searching for an “Engagement Manager” and not finding folks who want to relocate to the high Sierras (what is wrong with people!). That was the second time in the same day that another of our MOU partners expressed the need for a job pipeline.
For those who don’t know, the Bear River mostly resides in Placer and Nevada County. It’s at the Far West Reservoir where the Bear enters Yuba County, passing by the town of Wheatland, finally emptying into the Feather River that acts as the border between Yuba and Sutter Counties. Also good to know, the headwaters for the Bear are the same for the Middle and South Forks of the Yuba.

That places the Bear River squarely in the realm of our pilot program. There are a whole lot of meadowlands up there, trails, invasive species, and there’s even a project slated for creating a habitat conducive to the Monarch Butterfly!
