Super SYRCL? Absoulutely

Jan 21, 2026 – The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) made the news this week with two impressive achievements. Which of them is more noteworthy, I will leave that for you to decide.

For a quarter of a century now, SYRCL merged science and community to keep tabs on the Yuba River.

First, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife awarded SYRCL a grant of over $1.8 million to restore salmon and steelhead habitat along the Upper Long Bar.

That achievement is likely due to SYRCL’s 25-year commitment to the Yuba River through science. As reported in Maven’s Notebook, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlet focused on coverage of California water news, that at the end of 2025, a milestone had been reached: SYRCL’s  25 years of continuous community-driven, scientific-based monitoring of the Yuba River watershed!
