I was lucky enough to visit with Shaun Clarke on the Yuba Rim Trailhead last Friday (March 20, 2026).
Both the Bear and Yuba River watersheds intersect with land held by Bear Yuba Land Trust. BYLT oversees 19,000 acres-plus of land in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Recreation on BYLT land is what Shaun Clarke takes to heart. One of the highlights of this video is trail design and maintenance. It is a science! Remarkably, those sciences – watershed management, soil conservation, and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) – are not only involved in trail maintenance and design, but are part of a series of certification processes at nearby Yuba College.
