March 23, 2026: Yuba City
At the Yuba College Sutter Extension, room 101, Dean Michael Bagley and I held a recruitment drive aimed at two audiences. Per the grant agencies of We Prosper Together and Valley Vision, our hunt for interns was to make a turn toward “disinvested communities” and “high school” students. I am not ashamed to state that we were a little worried over the turnout. We did pitch our partner, the Alliance for Hispanic Advancement, and, of course, the leading counselors at Marysville Joint Unified and Yuba City Unified.

It must have been a good pitch!
Folks showed up over an hour early, and they kept coming. There are exactly 78 seats in room 101, and all were taken. Many were left standing or leaning against the back wall.
With the help of We Prosper Together personnel, we gathered names and emails. Over 60 interested students provided us with their contact information.
There is definitely an interest on this end of the jobs pipeline. Now it’s time to work with our stakeholders to see about future careers on the other end of the pipeline. Working hard to make Yuba and Sutter County’s economy grow, especially for the common good.
